Lazy Corner

Lazy Corner – the place in the village where the men would gather to smoke a pipe or two and get “the crack”. Pipe smoking was very common amongst the fishermen, and, in the days of clay pipes, they would wrap a piece of wire round the stem to prevent cancer of the lips! The scene below shows Sandy Bray and the Smithy. The mill lade branched from the burn behind the Smithy and ran under the road to the wool factory dam. You can see quite clearly the culvert in the wall.
